        *The Unusual Sunday Drop!* #018

_a weekly WA Series_

As devotees insist on the day of statue immersion “No matter the circumstances, we look forward to your return within the next year.

Agle baras aana hai, aana hi hoga...” “Pudchya varshi lavkar ya...”

Today, I will try to give a different angle to this festival, through the lens of revenue generation for an unorganized sector.

Welcoming of a king Shri. Ganesha gives a spike to an unorganized sector irrespective to a seller belonging to any religion. Unorganized sectors (Informal Sectors) are those which operates without governance of any laws. Like we have street vendors, street hawkers, personal service providers etc. in spite of, so many challenges, these sectors contribute close to 50% of total GDP in India.

· Group of family members come together for a tiny business of making a mesmerizing Ganpat idols.

· Street vendors sell as many as adorable flowers, garlands to the devotees.

· Devotees prefer eating vegetarian food, does there is a remarkable rise in the sale of Vegetables by the street vendors.

· Mahila Udyog (Ladies group business) motivates to prepare more of lip smacking sweets, snacks and other food items served to their loves ones and the guests.

· Garment manufacturing companies increase their labour force, and also the production.

· Chemical manufacturing companies  increase their production to sell crackers.

· Group of friends come together, forming a large group investing in band instruments and provide best of their service during the festival of Ganpati.

· Other sellers create a decorative apparel, turban and other accessories for the Ganpati idol their own creativity.

· Landlords offer spare room on rental basis to the expats staying in the region on temporary basis.

· Truck vehicle owners, rent out there, vehicle for  carrying large size idols from one place to other.

· Sustainable companies make the best use of leftover flowers in the sea by unbelievably converting them into incense sticks and handicrafts.

Thank you for staying till here if this gives rise to your thought, do let me know what all businesses you’ll have seen during festival season.
