*The Unusual Sunday Drop!* #26
A central event from the epic Ramayana- Diwali. After defeating the demon king Ravana. (Ravana was a Brahmina, master of the Vedas and a powerful devotee of Lord Shiva)
(Ravana)
This reminds me of a gorgeously crafted nostalgic anime film of my childhood Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama directed by Yugo Sako (Japanese film director, screenwriter, and producer).
Back then on 25th April 1983, Yugo Sako a young screenwriter came to India, he got to know about Ramayana from Dr. B. B. Lal,Uttar Pradesh- Allahabad. Young impressed and inspired Yugo Sako took a deep dive of 10 different versions of Ramanaya in order to create the best version. As Rama is a god he did not think of creating a live action. He thought of creating a polite anime character.
(Prabhu Shri. Ram)
However, things turned worst Yugo Sako told them that animation was a serious art form in Japan and it would help bring the Ramayana to a wider global audience. Initially Indian government agreed but later said it’s a sensitive subject and cannot be portrayed as a cartoon there was a big protest in India. After handling lots of funding issues movie was ready in 1992. was initially screened in Japan in 1993 and India at the 24th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 1993. But never released in India because of the protest.
This anime film, Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama directed by Yugo Sako was go impactful and trendy that it was not only successful in Japan but also gained popularity in most of the countries in the early 2000s. Its available in 4 languages- Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu After decades a 4K re-release of the film in Indian theaters began in 2025, bringing the story to a new generation.
Here's why you should watch a movie with your family in Diwali vacation
Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama: No matter you’re familiar with the Ramayana or you are new to the story, this film is an engaging and visually stunning way to experience.
I am sure you will recall your childhood memories in this family animated movie. Director has tried to put all the events as much as possible in this duration of 2H 15M.
